jdrf walk 2007

So i uploaded some old photos and found some from the JDRF walk we did with my nephew Garrett. I remember it being a balmy day. A day of walking, low-carb foods and making friends with a clown. Yes, a clown.

Team Tarbox as we were called passing through the beginning of the walk.

This is my new 'friend.' I was skeptical at first of this person, but she was very nice. She also fist pumped it, so I knew she couldn't be as bad as I thought. Afterwards, she gave me and I heart clowns sticker.

The little guy couldn't make it to the end. He was tuckered out.

Thanks again for everyone who donated!

devil child

Today Amy, Heather, Krystal, and I saw Rosemary's Baby at Film Stream. I had to have Amy explain to me that the devil really did come to earth and rape Rosemary, impregnating her with himself (if that makes sense). For some odd reason that didn't register in my head...I still don't think it does.

So remember kids, stay away from old neighbors who may practice with craft. You may have an unpleasant visit from Lucifer.

birthday girl

Happy birthday Danelle. I hope it was wonderful!

Saturday night we celebrated at Hiro. And guess what, I didn't have peanut butter chicken!

the first

how you came
so randomly
in and around the mountains
your smile stopped me
it consumed me
first love
first fall
first cry over a boy
the first always has a piece
you'll always have that piece
you said, 'can i keep your forever?'
'yes,' i said
i wasn't lying
and you'll always have that piece
i have mine
on my shoulder
in my back pocket
your echo wraps back around
it resonates
oh the first love
i wasn't lying

I'm sure I posted this last year. But it fits, so here it is.

queen

By far the best performance at the MTV VMA's last night. This is how it should be done.

*The video won't play here, so click here.

hot mess

I don't even know what to call this. She is well past a train wreck. So what to call last night's performance? Maybe this was the Grim Reaper coming to take her career away from her. Homegirl should have just stayed at home (or the bar, without her kids of course). So long Britney's career. It was nice knowing you.

what the f?

Baby Wee-Wee is the new doll in Europe. The infant is rocking some jewels. I'm just a little surprised they didn't go into more detail with the guy's guy. I find this a tad disturbing.

dream no. 1

I woke up from a phone call around 3 a.m. with Heather asking me if I could name a Trina song.

I responded with 'Da Baddest Bitch.'

The things is though, I was having some not good dreams. I had a dream that my MySpace came back - with all my friends intact, and this weird floral print/garden scene as the background picture.

I also had a dream I was the young Michael Meyers. I remember me and some friends (who happened to be older guys) were talking about knives. And then we all put on that scary mask and blue jump suits (this sounds like a bad dance video). The things is, I killed them by chopping off their heads. I remember my mom being upset with me. I don't think it was my real mom, but nonetheless, I had to go to a special school for it. Guess what - there just so happened to be two midgets there! I rearranged everyone's beds on the floor and they got mad at me. I tried to convince them I wouldn't chop anymore heads off - but that didn't work.

As a side note, the ocean was in my bed. With a little beach and surf boards too.

oh, the gays

Do all good things must come to an end? Just as soon as Iowa allowed the marriage of same-sex couples, they taketh away. Shame on you Iowa, rolling hills of corn and wheat. Sure you grace us with the Hawkeyes, but you sadden us with suspending a ban.

I was very surprised that an Iowa judge gave us the right to marry (even for a short while) in the first place. But as the conversation goes...

Me: Iowa is so ahead of the times.
Brian: And yet, so far behind.

I still have faith in you small square state. Let the queers marry and be merry. Don't be a hater.

her piano

hello, hello, have you had some Heinniken, hello
i haven’t yet
or i would *hic* fall off my piano stool
and everything would go horrible
i think i should not be allowed to do much when i sit at my piano
at my pianoi think that i should not be allowed to do much when i sit my piano
otherwise i won’t be able to keep my mind on what i’m doing
keep my mind on what i’m doing
and maybe i would fall off and then i’d have to crawl on the ground
and i have before
at some college when i fell off my piano stool
but i had not been drinking
that’s what’s so horrible
is i was totally straight, totally sane
and i could do nothing
absolutely nothing
so maybe i should i should have a drink
and you should pass me up right nowa Heinniken
but i don’t drink beer
so could you pass me up a nice Château, maybe a Bordeaux
cuz we are here now
having our secrets
someone is smoking something nice
but, boy, i’d like to have it now, oh, hello
my piano, she’s not smoking
she gave up last week and so we have these hidden little things
she’s got her patches
don’t tell…the organ, they’d been having a fight
so she is sexy in her patches
but i may just give her some, a little puff-puff-puff-puff-puff
while i have a little bit of some Bordeaux-love
with my piano, my piano
she’s my girl, my baby, my lady
see i love this one, yes, my only one
*i’m such a liar*
i’ve got three of these and one’s at home
and one’s in Florida, so
i am flirting with this piano
she’s a new one that i picked up very recently
don’t you think she’s a loud one
my piano
she’s never toured anywhere
she’s only been on British air, heh
my piano
she loves this life
she’s just wants you to come around
from now til the end of December
and I’ll bring Santa
and I’ll bring my dolls
and we’ll be and we’ll see you all there

Read about her falling off her stool during Blood Roses.

fall

come out fall
i know you're there
the summer is lovely
but she gets very hot
and way too humid
fall, you have pretty leaves
and crisp air
summer makes me sweat
and makes people smell
(oh, but never me)
so come out fall
we need you here
to drink beer
outside
in our sweaters
with the fire on
roasting some s'mpores
because they're delicious
with all that chocolate
i'm such a sucker for that chocolate
so hurry up fall
babe and gina and i need that cider
at the orchard
in nebraska
i always buy two gallons
but never drink them
because i forget i have them
but i will this year so pay no attention
i'll be waiting for you fall

something i don't know

I think we go through stages. well, I don't know if you would call it that. But i don't know what else to call it, so we'll just say stages.

We all have people in our lives who go onto different things and meet new people. Sometimes they stick around, other times not. I'm seeming to have a troubling time with evolving. Growing into something I have no idea what I should be growing into. Guidance is skewed. So are once thought perceptions of people - why can't we all just stay they same? But we can't stay the same, because then life would be boring. Our ideas, conversations, relationships, even friendships all change. Like summer to fall, and fall into winter. This might not makes sense to many of you, but then again, life doesn't make sense.

ode to facebook

you haven't poked me in awhile
it always gave me a big smile
you haven't poked me in awhile
i feel our relationships' gone mild
you haven't poked me in awhile
i'm in the mood for something wild
you haven't poked me in awhile
press that button, don't be shy
because poking can make one feel sly
come on poke me every now and then
i'll return the favor like a gentleman
so come on poke me don't be shy

dawson's creek random quote #1

Jen: You should stop wearing your heart on your sleeve, it might bleed to death.

Oh, Jen, how you know all about the trails and tribulations of teenage love. True, this bad girl knows a thing or two about romance and in this scene she breaks a young freshman's heart by turning him down.

under the blacklight

I purchased Rilo Kiley's cd Under the Blacklight the other day, and I love it. Yes, it doesn't really sound like anything they've done, but it's a new sound and it will take some getting used to. The only thing I think that could have been better is the length of the songs. It seems there is a lot of chorus and little verses. A favorite of my would be Silver Lining and Breakin' Up, so good. The beats in Blacklight are bomb. And Dejalo makes me shake my moneymaker.

I love you Jenny. Marry me.

and the grass, it was a' tickin'
and the sun was on the rise.
i never felt so wicked,
as when i willed our love to die.

and i was your silver lining, as the story goes.
i was your sliver lining, but now i'm gold.

first day

Today was Gavin's first day of preschool and Ellerie's second da of kindergarten. He seemed thrilled. She seemed like she was going to have a meltdown.

I will always remember the first day riding the bus. It was taking us to a different school in a different city. A city where there would be new people. As you learn after time, new people are good to meet. New cities are fun to visit. Things aren't ever as bad as we think of them. In time, Ellerie will not cry at bus stops, but she will move on to worrying about how good her jeans look with that shirt.

nightswimming

for two people i love...

the photograph reflects,
every streetlight a reminder
nightswimming deserves a quiet night, deserves a quiet night

holy storm batman!

Last night's strong winds seemed to prove too much for some of the trees around my house. The neighbor's tree snapped in two and covered most of the street. One branch seemed to find its way across the street and into the roof of our garage and a small twig into my sister's camper. They say there were no tornadoes, but there must have been more than strong winds through my yard. When I got home from watching Dawson's, it looked like a war took place on 7th Street.

This morning there was cedar on my hands. Hauling and dragging broken branches to the curb. Damaged: hole in roof of house and garage, ripped up fences, the top of a tree, the slide off the kid's swing set, and their trampoline, which, if not stopped by our fence could probably be found at the bottom of the lake.

umbrella

This is interesting, and kind of pretty. I just love Mandy Moore, I think she is gorgeous.

Is it just me, or is Mandy the only normal girl in the public eye right now? You have all the crazy, drugged up, trying to make a comeback bitches who fog everything up. I think we need more Mandy Moore's.

VIP tickets went on sale this morning for Lawrence, KS for November 9. We had thought all Platinum tickets were gone so were purchased Gold. What do you know, Platinum went back up and we purchased those as well.

If anyone would like to come with Heather and I to good ol' Lawrence, you can purchase two (or one) Gold package for OR CTR, Row M, seats 111-112. Oh, come on, you know you want them!

little earthquakes

My eye twitches sometimes. I was surrounded by the thoughts I smash. They decided I would be a good dinner. I decided I wanted 3 bridges in this song.

Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes Songbook

There is something really wonderful about this song. Not for the fact the man in the song and her have fights that can tear what they have apart - but for the way the words describe their relationship. Because really, how many times have little earthquakes ripped us in two?

and i hate elevator music
the way we fight
the way i'm left here silent

and i hate disintegration
watching us wither
black winged roses
that safely changed their COLOR

oh these little earthquakes
here we go again
these little earthquakes
doesn't take much to
rip us into pieces

i can't reach you
can't reach you
give me life
give me pain
give me myself again

Below are two versions. Tori's and a guitar man, Julean Rai.

windy

Last night, after I got home from Amy's and checked my email, I heard what sounded like a train outside my window. I look outside to see the wind pushing trees right to left, back to front. I was hoping it would storm! Well, I never wake up for storms, but I did wake up to this outside my kitchen window. It was a little too windy for a tree to the north of us. Rest in peace branch.

As a sidenote of yesterday, Amy and I were at the pool. I have a suspicion wasps have built a nest in the pool basketball thing because there were several swarming around it. They were also swarming around me, I don't care too much for them. I was anxious all pool time. So nervous that one would sting me, I would often run from them and flip off my raft when one would approach or come too near. At one point I thought one was on me, and I flipped off my raft, when I did so I got a knot the size of Montana in my calf. It hurt so bad! Next time I go to the pool, I'm bringing my Raid!

mad rush

It's that time again - Tori Amos ticket sales. Today was the beginning of the pre-sales and VIP tickets. I had Jamie to help me, but people in Chicago and Denver are too fast. I did score some amazing seats for the Omaha show (third row, center - what! what!).

The deal with the VIP tickets sounds like a good one. You get to sit in on her sound check, get to meet her, have great seats, get a gift package, and a few other random things. It better be worth the high ticket price.

The month of November will be a good one for me, a giant Tori fan. I'll be at a couple shows: Chicago, Omaha, Lawrence, and Denver. So if you see me, wave.

art in manila

Last Friday, Art In Manila had their cd release party. They played the entire album. It was a very good show. They were also one of Spin's Artist of the Day last week.

They will be on tour this fall with one of my favorites, Rilo Kiley! Maybe I can get a hug from Jenny Lewis? A boy can hope, can't he?!

birthday girl

Yesterday was my mother's birthday. She turned a very young 58. To celebrate Jan's Kitchen's age gain, Dawn, my sister, and I had family and friends over for pasta and cake.

A day before her birthday, she had thought she was going to be 59. She was a year ahead of herself. That said, she was sad to know she had one less year to go until retirement!

I love this woman. She is amazing. She also puts up with me. You can call me a momma's boy. She does so much for me. I can't thank her enough.

Happy Birthday Mom. Love you.

niobrara

We left mid-day, I felt it should have been earlier. The drive to Niobrara was long and tiring. But I was with Michael, so there was bound to be good conversation. We were limited in song selections, but we listened to the good stuff.

Making short stops, we drove through small towns. Towns not even considered small, or maybe even towns for that matter. I enjoyed one the most. I don't recall its name, but they had an OK Auto, OK Tire and just and OK. I don't know what that would have been, I assume something with fixing things up.

You know you're getting closer when the land starts to dip and rise to hills and pine trees grow from the ground. It reminds me of Colorado in a way. I love it there. We make a couple turns and arrive to a dirt road. A twenty minute ride through ranches and cow crossings and we come to our camp grounds.

The river was pretty. It raced slowly through rocks. The edge was untouched with flowers of all sorts. A small boy played by himself in the middle.

The tent situation was interesting. My last time roughing it in a tent was when I was a cub scout in second grade. With no instructions, we erected our tent. Michael did it mostly, I held poles for support. We can thank his several years in Boy Scouts for that.

That night I slept in my underwear. It was too hot for anything more. I also slept about two hours.

The next morning we were tubing down the river. We left around 9 a.m. All 16 of us piled into a bus covered in dust with coolers in the back. I slept most of the way. We reached our destination past Smith Falls. I wanted to see the big waterfall, but I was informed I couldn't.

The cooler I brought was giant. I named it Goliath. It was made of steel and instantly weighed the tube down, dragging it along the rocks. I applied my SPF and grabbed a Coors Light. I was tapping the Rockies.

Tubing was nice, minus the shallow parts where someone had to drag all 20 tubes into deeper water. We came to the first waterfall an hour or so after floating downstream. We think it may have come from South Dakota, but no one is sure. The water is ice cold. So cold any buzz I may have had was gone. People who tube yearly called this the jacuzzi. There I dipped my head to toe under the arctic water and we saw a prehistoric mosquito the size of a hand.

Awhile later we came to another waterfall. But first we needed to go over 'dangerous rapids' which involved us hauling the tubes down rocks and through stagnate, dead water. This waterfall was like steps. Giant steps we climbed up. It seemed like we were the first ones to ever step foot in it. I loved that.

After more river we made it back to our camp. We had a good dinner, thanks to Michael. I craved ice cream, but then again, I always crave ice cream. The older kids (us) stayed up all night, the young ones couldn't keep their eyes open.

My pyro side surfaced. I found a bottle of lighter fluid and started squirting it in the fire. I was sad to see it didn't last very long. I threw a bag of Fritos in. Happy to see a 99-cent bag can burn brightly as long as 20 minutes. From Frito bags to sour cream dip containers, beer bottles to whatever I could find that wasn't being used.

The best part of the night was discovering citronella candles are flammable and burn until the wax is gone. We had our camp fire and three citronella burning. We called it our sacrificial fire to spirits. After naming it that, a locust flew down from the trees and sacrificed itself in a candle. It made a loud pop. Best part of the night. We were all 12-year-old again.

We left early the next morning. I made the decision to never sleep in a tent again. If I would have to, to at least have an air mattress. The ride home seemed faster. Passing through the small towns again, I waved to OK Auto. I don't mind driving, as long as I have good music. It's my 'me' time, my time to think. You can only imagine how happy I was to sleep in my bed that night. It was heaven.

To see more photos from the trip.

now you know jack

While browsing the isles of Target with Amy, I stumbled upon a new product. Jack - soaps, lotions, shaving creams, and so on. What caught my eye was the square soap. Not only did it appeal to my eyes, it smells very good (the signature scent, not the other two). On first use of the soap I found myself to be very happy. It lathers extremely well and it gives you a tingly sensation. Plus, you get three bars (or would they be squares?) for around $5. Not bad if I say so.

one night only

Two and a half years ago a lovely bar closed. Joy was one of the few gay bars in Omaha. I enjoyed going because of the atmosphere and good drinks - they also played bangin' music. I'm not sure why it closed, but all the queers had to go to Max from that point on.

After closing, they re-opened it as Joseph's, a 30s single bar that failed.

Last night, however, Joy opened for one night only. A drag show of all the original N'Joy girls took place and they filled the place by 10 p.m.

This photo doesn't do this behind any justice. That is the rear end of the owner of Joy, Eric. He now does drag and does wonderfully at it. Jeffrey also did a great show of Spoon Full of Sugar/Umbrella. The closing performance of Eric was entertaining. Kevin made a rad backup dancer. Kevin, if you're reading this, please return my boxer briefs asap.

Matt's after hours are awesome as always. I don't know how people stay up so late. But I made it until 4 a.m. I was proud of myself. I love nights like these. You get to see people you don't always get to see, and that's a very nice thing.

wiped away

The other day my MySpace disappeared. I'm not sure where it went but it peaced out.

I now have 0 friends. No name. And I went from being a Sagittarius to a Capricorn who doesn't want kids.

It makes me a little sad. Not that my life is on a downward spiral with no MySpace, but for the fact of finding all of the out-of-towner friends.

You're a thorn in my side. Damn you, MySpace.

birthday boy

Today this little boy turns four! I've never met a kid who has so much energy but is as lazy as I am. His party was yesterday and let me tell you, I wish I was a kid again. He got so many cool toys. The bulk of them being Transformers. Babe and I tried to transform some of them, but they can be tricky. They ended the day with swimming in the ice-cold pool.

After their bath he asked me to play Star Wars with him on XBox 360. I asked him if it would be too hard for me and he said no. For anyone who has never picked up an XBox paddle, there are about 10 extra buttons than the original Nintendo paddle. After awhile of playing he was stuck playing R2D2 while I got to be some guy who a light saber. He kept yelling at me that I was doing things wrong. He put down his paddle and said, 'I'm going to go play with Ellerie, but you can keep playing.'

Then Gavin, Ellerie, Babe, and I sat down and watched an old school episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a Scooby Doo movie. It was past 10, so they really got to stay up past their bedtime. When Dawn came down to say it's time for bed, he laid on the floor and exhaustedly said, 'I am just so tired of walking.' So I carried him up and we headed home. Such a good day.

7.01.2007

oh, love

Thursday evening a couple of us grabbed some blankets and wine and headed to Elmwood Park. Well, I just brought wine, everyone else brought the other things.

Jen was performing in Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. She did a wonderful job. Below is a little snippet of it. I feel like she is a celebrity now, maybe I can ask her for an autograph?

When darkness said hello, Andrea showed up. I took a picture with her and the flash accidentally went off. The one security officer in the entire place yelled at me to keep the flash off.

It was a bit tricky to follow the story - with the wine and food involved. But it was a wonderful play. The weather was perfect and so was the company. Who's in for more Shakespeare?

backwards talk

i am full of snot. how attractive is that?
i feel like i am the gross kid in class that nobody wants to sit next to.
i would like you all to say a little prayer at night, wishing me to be well by morning.
why by morning, you ask?
well, i am in need of a run and some exercise.
i hate 'resting' for too long of a period.
and i just am tired of feeling like a pile of shit.

dawn and todd are close to putting in a pool.
i was helping todd tonight with moving dirt from point a to b.
my labor resulted in a blister next to my left thumb.

i ate mcdonald's and godfather's pizza today.
i thought to myself, why do i eat the unhealthy food
when i can't taste it?

my chin gets infected when the hair grows wrong on it,
resulting with infected hair follicles.
this might be why i am sick.
once again, i'm the gross kid.
my uncle will told me to shave with a single blade instead of three.
i told him i live by the mach 3 - he told me to stop.
he went into how the military has been dealing with this problem for years.
they shave with a single blade.
i tried.
it felt like it was ripping flesh.
i'll stick with my mach 3.

i am getting more comfortable with my co-workers.
i have never mentioned them here.
i work with many-a-latinas and two white girls.
after a month of working with them i have only picked up one phrase:
algo mas = is there anything else i can get for you?
i would like to know another language,
but spanish is not one of them.
it is more like third or fourth on my list.

i read margot and the nuclear so and so's will be in kansas city
august 2.
i am going.
they are also coming out with a new album.
prepare yourselves to have your mind blown.

someone from half a year ago is finding their way back in.
i like that.

i went to nebraska furniture mart today.
my camera will soon be fixed -
i hope videos and photos will result.

if you don't have rufus wainwright's new album
release the stars,
go buy it.
no questions asked.

is anyone else as pumped as i am for transformers (the movie)?
i think i tinkle every time i see a preview.

i finally have insurance.
aren't a big kid now?!

alright, i will spare you anything else that is random.

cruel/devils and gods

I thought these videos were rad, so here the are.

Tori played as Santa - Cruel (played like the Plugged 98 version)

Tori played as Isabel - Tubular Bells followed by Devils and Gods (starts around 2:15)
*The album version of Devils and Gods contains only the first verse. But Tori added lyrics as she started rehearsing for tour.

Devils and Gods now that’s an idea
But if we believe that it’s They who decide
That’s the ultimate detractor of crimes
‘cause Devils and Gods
They are You and I
Devils and Gods
They are You and I
Devils and Gods
Safe and Inside
Rebels as Gods
So Are they out there?
one would surmise that this must be the case
Some are not ok
with what’s taken place
long ago
A covenant made
On earth long ago a covenant made that
One could not rule
but all would partake
Devils can hide inside an idea
Placed there by Gods for you to think like this
If I were dead would he love me then?
That then begins a secret death wish
That then begins your secret death wish
You’ll gain his love
but too cold to kiss
Oh don’t let this lady lay
Don’t make this lady lie
No don’t let this lady lay
Don’t make this lady lie
Devils and Gods now that’s an idea
But if we believe that it’s They who decide

lobster anyone?

Happy birthday Michael! Today was his birthday. I baked a cake and it turned out surprisingly good. His mom made an amazing lunch. And we went swimming most of the day - jumped in and did cannonballs. We all came out red. We dined at PF Changs. And ended the evening with a movie. It was a perfect day to have a birthday!

heiruspecs

Nancy and Michael invited me to a concert at Sokol Underground. They have told me to come to this months ago. I was excited when Michael said Heiruspecs is his favorite band. Their set was pretty awesome. I enjoyed them.

Positions of Strength

It was lovely seeing Nancy. I haven't seen her since Michael's graduation party. She was bangin'.

Last night's Ben Harper show was heavy. It was beautiful weather and a good vibe. Smoke surfaced the tops of heads. Beer poured from cups - the cove cooler was also a tasty treat.

slowdown

Thursday evening, a new Omaha bar/venue had a soft opening. I was excited to go because Bright Eyes was playing a surprise show. My first impression of Slowdown was 'HOLY SHIT!' The place is amazing.

I went back again Friday evening to see five bands play:
Cap Gun Coup
Flowers Forever
Now, Archimedes
Art in Manila - This was my first time seeing one of Corey's bands. They rocked it.
Domestica
Little Brazil - They definitely rocked my face off last night.

Tonight, another five bands play, but I will be at Ben Harper.
Mal Madrigal
The Terminals
Lady Finger
Bear Country
Neva Dinova

Another awesome show at an awesome bar. One of the best things it also has to offer is their collection of board games and a photo booth, so rad.

This same week another was born. Welcome Jason to the world of your own words.

sweet escape

I've had such a wonderful evening. Ashley invited me to go with her to see Gwen Stefani tonight. I was worried it wouldn't be very good from the performances on the night shows I've seen of her - but this was awesome. It was much like a No Doubt show - sans band members. She gave the same energy and had an amazing voice (no faking the vocals here).

Some of the highlights for me were:
Yummy
Holla Back Girl
Rich Girl
Sweet Escape
Early Winter
What You Waiting For - which was by far the best of the whole night.

We did happen to sit next to the one person who brought pot and decided to smoke it around 10-year-olds. She was crazy and kept giving us high-fives during the show. The girls to my left also gave me a high-five - I think for my continuous dancing, singing and screaming. Thank you Ashley for letting me go with. Ben Harper here we come.

queer

The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
The lamest of the lame
The numbest of the dumb
I hate to see you here
You choke behind a smile
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
The strangest of the strange
The coldest of the cool
You're nothing special here
A fake behind the fear
The queerest of the queer
